From the moment when the Porticoes of Bologna were nominated for the World Heritage List, media attention on the subject increased right up to the time of actual entry on 28 July 2021 and has not stopped since.
Even before all this, the Bologna ASPPI (Small Property Owners Union) had created the “Portici di Bologna” Facebook group, which, to date, has acquired more than 26,000 members.
It was from this basis, i.e. social media adopted in a useful way, that Giorgia Giampietro, Vice President of ASPPI Bologna had the idea of bringing together a group of students from the Enrico Fermi Scientific High School in Bologna. Riccardo Magnani, Sandro Cifrodelli, Nichita Coroli and Iacopo Nanni decided to use the time of their PCTO (Pathways for Transversal Skills and Orientation) for the study and enhancement of the Porticoes of Bologna.
Supported by Prof. Antonella Merletto, already established as a podcaster for ASPPI, they made video footage with commentary pointing out interesting places for young people like them, effectively disseminating and updating the message of care and enhancement of their city. Their contribution is visible to everyone on the “World Heritage in Schools” website, the portal of the Association of sites declared World Heritage (here). The World Heritage Porticoes Office, created to support the activities of the World Heritage List site, has willingly contributed to the achievement of the pupils’ objectives.
However, this initiative did not end with the PCTO. Now, a monographic issue of the magazine “I Quaderni della Ricerca” by the prestigious publisher Loescher has been published by Prof. Lacetto, giving a complete and analytical account of the four pupils’ experience. The teacher also provides an exhaustive reading of the portico phenomenon and a description of the twelve components.
