The installation of the 38 plaques celebrating the inscription of the serial site “The Porticoes of Bologna” on the UNESCO World Heritage List has been completed. Two plaques were installed in the Cavour, Farini e Minghetti component, on the Palazzo of the Bank of Italy and at Casa Saraceni, headquarters of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Bologna: The last one was placed on the building known as the Falansterio, inside the Santa Caterina e Saragozza component.
All the plaques display in both Italian and English the motivation for the inscription of the Porticoes of Bologna on the World Heritage List. A QR code redirects to this official website which also hosts specific contents for deaf people, as indicated by the appropriate symbol. A short message in Braille has also been inserted, which informs blind or visually impaired people that they are near a UNESCO property. They too, by connecting via QR code to the website, will find contents available to the most common facilitated reading systems. In order to improve accessibility for people in wheelchairs, all the plaques were installed at an adequate distance from the ground.
The installation of the plaques began during the preview of the latest edition of the Bologna Portici Festival, on May 18, 2024, when the first one was unveiled under the portico of Palazzo d'Accursio, in the presence of the Mayor, Matteo Lepore, and Jyoti Hosagrahar, Deputy Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre.
