The work allowed repairs to the damage caused by the 2012 earthquake, with the resilience of the structure boosted by the insertion of implants for increased resistance to any future earthquakes. The exceptionally large works site extended over 1,800 linear metres and affected 341 arches (out of a total of 658).
The main interventions involved:
- Damage repair and structural consolidation.
- Complete reconstruction of plasterwork and coverings.
- Aesthetic restoration to restore visual continuity to the monument.
By the end of January, an official request will be made to UNESCO to change the boundaries of the “San Luca” component so that they include part of the Municipality of Casalecchio di Reno territory, thus strengthening the property's ties to the community.
