EXPLORING THE PORTICOES: WORLD HERITAGE PLAQUES

This initiative was aimed to highlight the value of the Porticoes as a World Heritage site, following UNESCO guidelines that encourage making inscribed properties easily recognizable.

In line with UNESCO's recommendations, the city has developed a signage system that not only identifies the site but also modernizes its narrative through digital integration and a strong focus on inclusion.

A total of 38 plaques have been installed at strategic points across the site’s 12 components. Each plaque features a QR code that directs users to the dedicated page on "I Portici" portal.

The project was developed in collaboration with the Municipality’s Diversity Team, the Francesco Cavazza Institute, and the National Association of the Deaf (ENS) to ensure accessibility for the widest possible audience. The height of the plaques is tailored for wheelchair users, and they include texts in Braille.

Every detail has been carefully verified to meet diverse mobility and sensory needs, turning the narrative of our heritage into a barrier-free experience.

Below are some of the plaques currently on display.
