The current façade of Palazzo Zambeccari overlooking Via Farini is the result of the urban transformations of the post-unity period, when the ancient Via Ponte di Ferro was widened to help create a more modern road network. The complex of buildings that stood there, including the ancient Camaldolese church of Santi Cosma and Damiano, underwent radical renovation by three Bolognese engineers: Alessandro Maccaferri, Luigi Grandi and Francesco Gualandi, the latter considered to be the main author of the work. The Via Farini façade, whose design was presented in 1870, is an eclectic work that employs classicist styles, which do not, however, resemble the original balanced proportions. But on the whole, the external style of the building reflects an effective movement in the planes of the façade. Under the portico is the entrance to the reconstructed rooms of the ancient Camaldolese church. This had been rebuilt perpendicular to the original plan but was never fully completed. Today it provides an exceptional setting for a business establishment.
