“Special measures for the protection and use of Italian properties and elements of cultural, landscape and environmental interest, included in the 'World Heritage List', placed under the protection of UNESCO”
In its current formulation, it is the result of the amendments made with Law no. 44 of 8 March 2017, which extended the regulation’s scope of application to the Properties included in the World Heritage List under the 1972 Convention, and also to the Elements of Intangible Cultural Heritage included in the lists referred to in the 2003 Convention.
The law establishes that the Properties and Elements inscribed in the Lists under the two UNESCO Conventions possess a uniqueness that makes them not only points of excellence of the Italian cultural, landscape and natural heritage, but also key elements of the representation of our country internationally. It also formally recognises the management and safeguard plans, required by UNESCO, as tools designed to ensure the conservation of the Properties and the Elements respectively and to create the best conditions for their enhancement.
The law also provides for financial measures to support the enhancement, communication and use of the Properties and Elements: the interventions and their funding amounts are established by Decree of the Minister of Culture, in agreement with the Minister of the Environment and the Protection of the Territory and the Sea, the Minister of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies and the Permanent Conference for Relations between the State, the Regions and the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano.
