PORTICANDO IL DNA DELLA CITTA'

THREE INSTITUTIONS AND A HERITAGE

The initiative constitutes an effective operational model to promote participatory culture between institutions and young citizens in the field of cultural heritage. The aim is to carry out special preservation, training and enhancement projects. These, through educational-training workshops with students from the courses on Restoration, Graphic Design, Photography, Cinema and Audio-Visual Media and on Communication and Pedagogy of Art, promote the recovery and rediscovery of an always variegated heritage. The programme was conceived by Antonella Salvi from the Emilia-Romagna Cultural Heritage sector and developed in agreement with the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna. It was officially launched in 2014.

PORTICANDO – THE CITY 'S DNA (2022-2023)
This scheme is the largest and most multifaceted edition of Three Institutions and Heritage in terms of its operational and training offer. At the heart is the “PORTICOES” heritage of the city of Bologna, which obtained prestigious UNESCO World Heritage recognition in 2021.

The five themed Worksites saw the involvement of more than fifty students and teachers from the Academy courses and the active participation of citizens and schools around the City:

• Worksite for the recovery of the wooden portico of Palazzo Grassi through an “Executive Restoration Project”.

• Restoration worksite for significant paper and photographic materials identified in the Municipal archives on “portico-related” themes, originating from the Archives of the Municipality of Bologna. A further element is the maintenance of the famous Panfili drawings kept at the Archiginnasio Library.

• Restoration worksite for the removal of graffiti from the “Madonna and Child” shrine and mounting in the portico of Via Belle Arti: this is particularly interesting restoration work from a technical point of view and also because it is closely aligned to the scope of heritage education, with citizens and pupils of local schools participating in the execution phases.

• Heritage education worksite with the involvement of the community and above all of the secondary schools of the Bologna area in the educational paths at the portico restoration sites and in classroom activities for the development of this e-Book as a  multimedia teaching support for schools.

• Communication and dissemination worksite that includes the activities of the Graphic Design Course for the creation of the visual identity and communication materials of the “portico project” (naming, logo, coordinated image). It also incorporates the activities of the Film and Audiovisual Media Course for the production of footage, interviews and editing of a trailer with English subtitles and a video narration of the entire project.
